In September we kicked off LMM’s brand new PGCEi in Group Instrument Learning in partnership with Birmingham City University (BCU). After spending the first day of Induction Week in Birmingham, our cohort of students enjoyed a week of seminars, workshops and social events in and around Kings Place, with sessions delivered by BCU academics, guest speakers from the music and education sectors and LMM’s own Teacher-Mentors. The students are now looking forward to intensive weekends of teaching and learning throughout the year as well as the chance to observe teaching in a range of settings across LMM’s schools and beyond, and in turn they will be regularly observed and supported in their own working environment.

I have reached the end of a fantastic 1st week on the @LDNmusicmasters PGCEi course. I look forward to seeing everyone again in November.
Concurrently, we welcomed in the new academic year with an inspiring training day for LMM’s teaching team. Violin teachers enjoyed an ensemble repertoire-building session with Frank Biddulph exploring music from folk and jazz traditions while Cello teachers spent the morning with Helen Neilson focussing on repertoire including the new ABRSM cello syllabus. After a shared lunch, teachers came together to hear from our SEND Lead, Sarah Hill, who led a session on approaches to and developments in teaching music to children with special educational needs and disabilities. Finally, teachers spent time working and planning with their school and teaching teams to ensure a great start to the teaching term in our six partner schools before coming together for an evening with our PGCEi cohort, marking the start of a close and symbiotic partnership between our schools programme and our PGCEi course.
